A mistake made by green tea lovers

Water temperature, brewing time, and the correct amount of tea ... are the three main elements that stand between you and the perfect cup of green tea.

It's the temperature that most people miscalculate, said Keira Schapper, of the German Association for Tea and Herbal Drinks.

She explained, "With green tea, it is important that the water has cooled a little ... It is somewhat sensitive to high temperatures, and with water that is not very hot - about 80 degrees Celsius - the taste experience becomes complete."

If you do not have a kettle that displays the water temperature, boil the water and then leave the kettle with the lid open for about five minutes. Then the water is ready to be poured into the cup.

It suffices to use a bag of green tea or a teaspoon of loose tea for about 200 milliliters of water. Then let the tea brew for between one to three minutes.

With loose leaf tea, you can keep using the same leaves up to three times, which means you can add more water to the same cup after you're done.

“Always leave the tea in the water for a little longer the third time,” advised Keira Schaper. But this is a matter of taste ».

If the tea is left to steep for too long, the tannin in the tea will dissolve immediately, making it taste strong or even pungent.
