Welcome to “Mysteries from here”, the 20-minute  sound series  devoted to stories and legends… From Aix-en-Provence to Gauchin-le-Gal via La Rochelle, guides, historians and storytellers tell you the mysteries of our regions. These stories bring together history, local identity, fears and desires ...

For this third episode of this season, let's go to Poitou to discover the secrets of Mélusine, woman with the snake tail, builder, founder of the line of the counts of Lusignan. The legend comes to us from Jean d'Arras, in the 14th century. Coming from Albania to Poitou, she met and married Raymondin de Lusignan, with whom she had ten children.

Powerful woman

She is attributed the powers of a builder, such as the construction of the castles of Lusignan and Vouvant, the towers of La Rochelle or the abbey of Maillezais. But betrayed by her husband, she will flee after the discovery of her secret. A legend told by Monique Bourneuf, local historian.
