With the heat wave, mountain hikes become more dangerous. The Haute-Savoie prefecture thus invited mountaineers who wish to climb Mont-Blanc on Monday evening to postpone their ascent because of the rockfall which intensifies on the classic route leading to its summit.

Three rescues already carried out

According to the authorities, the rock falls at the Aiguille du Goûter were "particularly important and regular" on Monday "because of the heat wave". In total, three rescues were undertaken there by the Chamonix high mountain gendarmerie platoon (PGHM) for mountaineers victims of stones. They suffered minor injuries and were hoisted to the Chamonix hospital center.

To justify its decision, the prefecture specified that “the feedback from the field made to the various mountain stakeholders - guardians of refuges on the normal route, Compagnie des guides de Chamonix, Compagnie des guides de Saint-Gervais, Chamoniarde , go in the same direction ”. She also recalled that temperatures should not drop "significantly" in the region "before Thursday".
