A tragic photo of a dying bird wins an International Photography Award

A picture of a bird fighting death from a viral infection in French Guiana won first prize in the international environmental photo competition, according to the British "Daily Mail" website.

The winning photo, taken by David Costantini of the National Museum of Natural History in Paris, shows a sick seabird with clear signs of a viral disease that he is unlikely to recover from.

The competition was created to give ecologists the opportunity to share their research and photographic skills, and to celebrate the intersection between art and science.
