The details of the upcoming film are still kept secret, but information about Jared Leto's participation in the project dedicated to the cult artist appeared back in 2016. Then it was assumed that the film entitled "Warhol" will be based on the book by Victor Bockris "Warhol. Biography ”, and the adaptation of the work will be done by screenwriter Terence Winter, who worked, among other things, on the film“ The Wolf of Wall Street ”and the series“ The Sopranos ”.

Jared Leto was supposed to play the main role in the film, and along with Michael De Luca ("The Social Network", "Pleasantville") act as the producer of the film.

As noted by The Hollywood Reporter, Leto and De Luca planned to release not a low-budget indie film, but a large-scale project.

However, after the first announcement in 2016, the news about the project stopped coming.

Actor Jared Leto has long been known for his talent for reincarnation. His track record of more than 40 roles: from the supervillain Joker in the action movie "Suicide Squad" and ending with the transvestite Rayon in the drama "Dallas Buyers Club" - for this work the actor was awarded an Oscar.

XX century legend

Andy Warhol was one of the most famous painters of his time. He played a big role in the development of pop art. Warhol's most recognizable projects include Campbell's 32 Soup Cans and Marilyn's Diptych.

Warhol has directed several dozen films. He also appeared on the big screen several times, and played himself in films such as Tootsie and Cocaine Cowboys.

After Andy Warhol's death in 1987, several documentaries and feature films were made about his life.

George Hickenlooper's 2006 painting I Seduced Andy Warhol is dedicated to the artist's relationship with his muse, American actress Edie Sedgwick. Warhol was played by British actor Guy Pearce, and Sedgwick was played by Sienna Miller. The tape was well received by the audience, but received mostly negative reviews from critics: its rating on the Rotten Tomatoes website is only 20%. Many described the film as flimsy and messy.

Director Julian Schnabel in his 1996 film Basquiat focused on the life and work of the American neo-expressionist artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, played by Jeffrey Wright, but Andy Warhol was one of the central characters in the film. He was played by musician David Bowie. The picture was presented in the main program of the Venice Film Festival and claimed the main prize of the show - "Golden Lion".

Mary Harron's 1996 film I Shot Andy Warhol was another striking game project about Warhol. It is based on the story of the radical feminist Valerie Solanas, who assassinated the artist in 1968. Warhol survived the bullet wound and refused to testify against Solanas. Lily Taylor and Jared Harris starred in the film.

Andy Warhol has appeared as a character in other films and TV series. Over the years, he was played by Crispin Glover (The Doors), Greg Travis (The Keepers), Bill Hader (Men in Black 3), Tom Miten (Noel Fielding's Luxurious Comedy), John Cameron Mitchell (Vinyl ), Evan Peters (American Horror Story) and Carey Elwes (Billionaire Club).
