Many cultural events planned for this summer have been canceled due to the health crisis. But some exhibitions have nevertheless opened their doors. In Bordeaux, Marseille and Pougne-Hérisson, in Deux-Sèvres, an overview of some events not to be missed.

The mask is required, it is better to book in advance but some museums are indeed open this summer. Europe 1 has selected two must-see exhibitions in August and an extraordinary festival, organized in a small village in Deux-Sèvres.

"The Basins of Lights", at the Bordeaux submarine base

Gustav Klimt's works have invaded the Bordeaux submarine base. The canvases of the Austrian painter are projected on the concrete walls, the floor and are reflected on the water. To invest this gigantic bunker of four hectares, a visual and sound challenge was taken up because the exhibition mixes music and image. On Beethoven symphonies, visitors are invited to stroll around the four 100-meter-long pools. "Klimt's paintings are taken out of their frames and displayed on the 13,000m² screen", explains Augustin de Cointet, the director of the exhibition.

"The Sound Orient: forgotten music, living music," at the Mucem, in Marseille

The Mucem puts the spotlight on traditional Arab music, "forgotten and unknown" according to Pierre Giner, the artistic director of the exhibition. 60 78 rpm records loaned by the Lebanese Arab Music Archiving and Research foundation (which has a total of 10,000) are on display. The first recording presented dates from 1903. "We come to sit in the middle of the installations, on carpets and listen to the music as close as possible", summarizes Pierre Giner.

"The 30 years of the Navel Festival of the World", in Pougne-Hérisson

For 30 years, the "Navel du Monde" festival has animated Pougne-Hérisson, a small village of less than 400 inhabitants, located in Deux-Sèvres. Shows, games and street artists will be waiting for you. With this festival, Yannick Jaulin, storyteller and creator of the event, wishes to "celebrate ordinary creativity".
