The Japanese pharmaceutical company, Shionoji, said in a statement that it plans, starting next month, to launch a new test to detect infection with the emerging corona virus, the results of which will appear after only 25 minutes.

The company said in a statement, reported by Bloomberg News today, Saturday, that it and three Japanese universities signed a contract last June, whereby "Shionoji" would produce the new test in large quantities in order to obtain faster results compared to other available tests.

"Shionoji" explained that it had received support of 37.3 billion yen (352 million US dollars) from the Japanese government to help it develop a vaccine against the Corona virus. The company intends to produce 30 million doses of it by the end of 2021.

According to data from Johns Hopkins University and the Bloomberg News Agency, the total number of new cases of Coronavirus in Japan has reached 45,757 as of Saturday.

On Friday, Tokyo confirmed 462 new cases of the virus. The epidemic control committee in the Japanese capital said on Thursday that the city is on the highest alert in the face of the outbreak of the virus.
