  • On social networks, a viral video arouses as much concern as it does fascination.
  • It shows a bipedal robot aiming at multiple targets with a pistol without ever missing them, regardless of the obstacles in front of him.
  • But it is actually a fake robot, made with the help of special effects by an American company which parodies the creations of the company Boston Dynamics.

Whether he's lying on the ground, standing and moving, or just received a series of blows, it doesn't matter. Imperturbable and indestructible, the bipedal robot, armed with a pistol or a rifle, never misses its targets. And he even shows himself capable of differentiating a human from a mannequin.

Something to impress Internet users, who are discovering this video demonstration of its abilities on social networks thanks to, for example, a tweet dated August 6 with more than 159,000 views.

But if the talents of this military machine worry and fascinate rightly, they are in reality completely fictitious. These are indeed synthetic images parodying the videos regularly produced by the American company Boston Dynamics to show its robotic creations - as suggested by the humorous mention “Bosstown Dynamics”, visible at the bottom right of the sequence.

FAKE OFF

This viral sequence is far from new: it first had significant visibility on social networks last fall, when it was posted online by the American company Corridor Digital, known for its creations rich in special effects. .

Entitled “A New Robot Makes Soldiers Obsolete”, the video quickly met with great success, well beyond the English-speaking audience.

In the process, Corridor Digital had also uploaded a making-of showing, in pictures, how this fake robot could have been born - with the help, in particular, of an actor whose company captured the movements. to reproduce them even more faithfully on the robot created in synthetic images.

And, as we can see below, this parody was very faithful to the spirit of the authentic demonstration videos made, over the years, by Boston Dynamics.
