Stable indicators in France

The toll in France stands at 30,312 dead in France, according to the latest toll released Thursday by the Ministry of Health, or seven additional deaths in 24 hours. The number of patients in intensive care stands at 390. An indicator alternating between decline and increase for a few days but remains far from the 8,000 patients identified at the height of the epidemic. 

The number of new confirmed cases is, however, increasing: the latest report shows 1,604 additional cases in 24 hours. The number of clusters has also increased: the Ministry of Health has counted 14 new clusters in the past 24 hours. Norway has also just announced the passage of France in the red zone, leading to a mandatory ten-day quarantine for travelers.

To tint to curb the epidemic, the mask has become mandatory in the outdoor public spaces of many municipalities including Nice, Toulouse and Saint-Tropez. The measure should be adopted in Paris as early as next week. 

Universities will reopen at the start of the school year

Students will be able to return to their institutions, the Ministry of Higher Education announced Thursday. "Wearing a mask in teaching rooms is strongly recommended," the ministry said in publishing a circular which should allow universities and colleges "to accommodate the largest number of students, in compliance with health instructions " From September onwards. 

After the deconfinement started on May 11, schools had gradually reopened their doors in France but those of higher education, including 74 universities, had remained closed to prevent the spread of the epidemic. 2,000 deaths in 24 hours in the United States

Africa has passed the milestone of one million cases ....

The milestone of one million cases of the new coronavirus was crossed Thursday in Africa, a continent which remains however the least affected in the world and where the distribution of cases is very uneven. According to figures compiled by AFP on Thursday, some 1,000,054 cases have been recorded across the continent, with at least 21,724 deaths, which represents about 5% of cases worldwide.

Only 5 of Africa's 54 countries account for 75% of cases, according to the continent's Center for Disease Control. South Africa, Africa's most industrialized country, accounts for more than half of the continent's confirmed cases, with 538,184 infections. It is the 5th most affected country in the world, behind the United States, Brazil, India and Russia.

India passed the two million declared cases of the new coronavirus on Friday, according to the latest official figures from the Indian Ministry of Health. The South Asian giant has so far recorded 41,585 deaths from Covid-19 disease for a total of 2,027,074 confirmed patients since the start of the epidemic. With Indian authorities only testing symptomatic patients, experts say the numbers are underestimated.
