The first Dirty dancing film from 1987 depicts the impossible love affair between teenager Frances "Baby" Houseman (Gray) and dance teacher Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze) at a resort in the Catskills Mountains in the 1960s.

The film was a cinematic success, grossing about $ 1.9 billion. Its motto "(I've had) the time of my life" won both an Oscar and a Golden Globe and the line "nobody puts Baby in the corner" has been inscribed in the film history books. The plot of the new Dirty dancing movie is not revealed.

In 2004 came the sequel Dirty dancing: Havana nights where Patrick Swayze, who died of cancer in 2009, appeared as a dance teacher again, but then in a smaller role.
