  August 7 is the beginning of autumn in the twenty-four solar terms of the lunar calendar. Many experts at home and abroad have reached a consensus that the new crown pneumonia epidemic is easy to repeat in autumn and winter, so it is necessary to deal with it.

  Why does the fall and winter "epidemic" repeat? In an interview with a reporter from China News Agency, Zeng Guang, the former chief scientist of epidemiology at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, pointed out three reasons.

  First of all, although people do not know enough about the new coronavirus, based on their existing knowledge of respiratory infectious diseases, they generally continue to spread from the end of autumn to the end of spring of the following year. Therefore, the new coronary pneumonia, which is also a respiratory infectious disease, formed an epidemic peak in autumn. Is more likely;

  Secondly, other respiratory infectious diseases, such as influenza, will also form a peak of epidemic in the autumn. The human body is faced with multiple shocks, and the new crown pneumonia virus may "take advantage of its weakness";

  Thirdly, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand and other countries in the southern hemisphere have seen the situation where the new crown pneumonia epidemic is superimposed on the flu. The global epidemic situation is not optimistic, and the pressure of China's foreign defense import is still heavy.

  Zhang Wenhong, director of the Department of Infectious Diseases at the Huashan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University, said in an interview show on the 6th that he thought that the rebound of the fall epidemic would become a huge challenge. In fact, this challenge has come ahead of schedule. He believes that it is possible that the global epidemic will be spreading throughout the year.

  Zhang Wenhong also said before that because the virus tends to replicate more easily in winter and indoor activities increase the risk of transmission, even countries in the northern hemisphere that have withstood the first wave of epidemics may face a second wave of challenges in this autumn and winter. The biggest question facing right now is what kind of epidemic prevention strategy should be adopted to meet the challenge.

  Talking about possible repetitions of response to the epidemic in autumn and winter, the interviewed experts summarized three levels of deployment.

  The first is the individual level. "Wear a mask, wash your hands frequently, and maintain social distancing." Zeng Guang reminded that respiratory infectious diseases such as new coronary pneumonia and influenza are mainly spread by droplets. Facts have proved that these practices can effectively protect themselves.

  In view of the rebound of the epidemic, some cities in France, the Netherlands, Greece, Australia and other countries have successively enforced the "mask order." The Director-General of the World Health Organization Tan Desai said that a "mask mobilization order" will be launched in the near future to encourage people around the world to send photos of wearing masks.

  The second is the group level. Zhang Wenhong predicted the disappearance of the new crown pneumonia epidemic in two ways: either by vaccinating all of them, or achieving herd immunity.

  The new crown pneumonia vaccine is still in the intensive development process. Zeng Guang suggested that the elderly and patients with chronic diseases may wish to vaccinate the existing Streptococcus pneumoniae vaccine and influenza vaccine to strengthen protection according to the actual situation. He said frankly that the domestic influenza vaccination rate is low. As China has achieved a phased victory in the fight against the new crown pneumonia epidemic, "we must see the shortcomings and strengthen our guard."

  The reporter noticed that Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenzhen and other places have successively implemented policies to vaccinate key populations free of charge. In June of this year, Beijing announced a 2020 disease prevention and control work point that "combined with autumn and winter respiratory disease prevention and control measures, early deployment and implementation of influenza vaccine procurement and vaccination services."

  The third is the social level. Wang Hesheng, deputy director of the National Health Commission of China, said at a recent briefing that it is necessary to give full play to the role of the State Council’s joint prevention and control mechanism, strictly implement normalized prevention and control requirements, and take into account the seasonal characteristics of the high incidence of respiratory tract infections in autumn and winter. Specific measures for the prevention and control of the new crown pneumonia epidemic in winter.

  The Medical Treatment Team of the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council of China recently issued the "Work Plan for the Medical Treatment of the New Coronary Pneumonia Epidemic in Autumn and Winter", which involves standardized construction and management of fever clinics, nucleic acid testing, material storage, personnel protection, etc., requiring re-examination of prevention and control loopholes , Reinforce the focus of prevention and control, and implement the prevention and control requirements. On July 31, the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council held a video and telephone conference, emphasizing preparations for prevention and control in autumn and winter, and resolutely preventing the epidemic from rebounding.

  Wang Hesheng believes that the key is to implement the requirements of "early detection, early reporting, early isolation, and early treatment", including improving nucleic acid testing capabilities and quality as soon as possible. Zeng Guang has the same view. He said: "Detection reagents are improving, and detection efficiency is improving. It is also necessary to step up production of detection reagents to achieve large-scale applications."

  Experts remind people not to hurt the "epidemic" in sad autumn. On the one hand, they have the accumulated experience and foundation in the previous period, which I believe can be well dealt with; on the other hand, people have never stopped exploring the development of anti-coronavirus drugs and vaccines. As Tan Desai said: “Adhere to science and Unity can overcome the new coronary pneumonia pandemic." (End)
