Jennifer Gray to produce sequel to - RONALDGRANT / MARY EVANS / SIPA

Dirty Dancing will therefore have a sequel. As Deadline reports, production company Lionsgate is currently working on the sequel to the cult film starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Gray, more than 33 years after its release. It will be directed by Jonathan Levine, the director of Warm Bodies in 2013.

“This will be exactly the kind of romantic, nostalgic movie that fans of the franchise have been waiting for,” said Jon Feltheimer, CEO of Lionsgate. And good news, Jennifer Gray will be there, as a producer, but also as an actress.

A remake and a mini-series

This is not the first time that studios have tried to give Dirty Dancing a second life . This is how Dirty Dancing 2 was born in 2004, a project that transposed the history of the cult film in Havana, but without Jennifer Gray. And in 2017, ABC debuted a three-episode miniseries with actors Abigail Breslin and Colt Prattes as Baby and Johnny Castle.
