The Bardot Foundation seized this Thursday morning about fifty dogs "in distress" from a private individual "overwhelmed" in Asasp-Arros, near Pau in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. "Upon denunciation of a neighbor, we intervened this morning at 9 am at a private individual who allowed himself to be overtaken because his dogs are not sterilized", explained Daniel Raposo, investigator for the association.

The Foundation has recovered "dogs in distress, thin, with skin problems, which have not been socialized but are not aggressive," he added. According to him, the dogs that have bred among themselves look like shepherd and border collie dogs, of medium size. "There are five puppies, a pregnant bitch and a majority of adults of all ages."

No complaint filed against the owner

"Our fight is also to educate the public on the sterilization of dogs and cats because overpopulation leads to animal suffering", he laments, noting that, when on July 27, he came to see the state of the animals, "they had no food or water available". As all the animals are transportable, according to the veterinarian, a large majority of them will join the refuge of the Bardot de la Mare-Auzou Foundation in Normandy and the others will go to pensions.

As for the owner, "the old man who admits to having let himself be overtaken by events, he will keep five dogs which have been sterilized at our expense," said Jessica Langlois, head of veterinary care at the Foundation, who did not wished to file a complaint against him. “There is animal distress but also that of man. The old man is psychologically fragile and we do not want to leave him without a dog, ”she said, recalling that“ people in distress should not hesitate to ask for help. We are there for that ! "
