"Emma." (Emma.)

Comedy melodrama "Emma." is a screen version of the novel of the same name by Jane Austen. The main character, Emma Woodhouse, is sure that she is well versed in people and can, as a kind of matchmaker, interfere with the personal life of others. Emma herself does not plan to get married, but life is preparing a surprise for her.

"Emma." became the first feature-length feature work of the musical director Autumn de Wilde. Anya Taylor-Joy ("Glass", "Peaky Blinders") played the main role in the film. Johnny Flynn, Mia Goth and Bill Nighy are also involved in the film.

This novel by Jane Austen has already been filmed several times. Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Beckinsale, Romola Garay and other actresses were entrusted with the main role at different times.

According to film critics, the new film adaptation is strikingly different from the previous ones with a "youthful rebellious spirit and a more outspoken comedic component."

Also, the film adaptation of Autumn de Wilde has a slightly different name: there is a dot after the name of the main character. The director explained that it was all about puns. “There’s a period after Emma because it’s a historical film,” Wilde told RadioTimes (period in American English is “dot”; period film is “historical film.” - RT ).

The shooting took place in St. Petersburg, and the frame shows both a bright, familiar metropolis, and a parallel one - gloomy, permeated with mysticism.

One of the central roles in the film was played by Lyubov Tolkalina. In an interview with Radio 1, the actress suggested that the authors of the film "tried to reflect on the topic of a simple, visible human life and what is hidden on the dark, reverse side of beautiful facades."
