"The mask please, it is compulsory". In the streets of Nice, where the mask has been compulsory over a "large perimeter" since Monday, the police can distribute fines and orders to close terraces to recalcitrant from this Wednesday, recalls Nice-Matin .

The municipal decree imposes the wearing of the mask from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m., under penalty of a fine of 35 euros. Since Monday, around ten municipal police officers have been present on the most frequented sites for prevention. "From Wednesday, we will really take sanctions," said the mayor of the city Christian Estrosi.

Loudspeakers on the Promenade des Anglais

Asked about the duration of this measure, the city councilor replied: "Until I was told that it (the virus) was no longer circulating (...) I had a course during this whole period, that I did not quit and that I will not quit until we have reached 50% immunity, if the vaccine is not released by then ”.

To remind casual passers-by and carefree holidaymakers of these measures, the city of the Côte d'Azur has installed loudspeakers as an extension of the Promenade des Anglais, which every half hour reminds us of "the need to respect barrier gestures" , but also not to crowd together, to leave the beach clean, not to disturb the neighborhood with music or not to consume alcohol after a certain hour. About fifteen of these speakers, already used during confinement, are deployed and a dozen more will be to enforce the wearing of masks, said Christian Estrosi. In Nice, barrier measures are an integral part of holidays.
