The coronavirus is still circulating in France, at low noise, and especially among young people. Faced with the threat of a second wave, doctors are calling for young people to be contaminated among themselves, to ensure the start of collective immunity. A solution strongly opposed by the President of the Scientific Council Jean-François Delfraissy, interviewed Tuesday on RTL.

"It is [young people] who are contaminated", confirmed Professor Delfraissy, because "it is the young people who take the least social distancing, who wear the least the mask. "Should we let the virus circulate to participate in collective immunity, as Professor Eric Caumes proposes? " Especially not ! », Reacted strongly Jean-François Delfraissy. “If we let young people infect each other with his idea of obtaining collective immunity, it was done in Sweden and it did not work. There was a very significant contamination of the elderly. If we let the virus circulate in this young population, inevitably at some point, it will escape us, ”he warns.

The week of July 20 to 26, the number of new confirmed cases in France increased significantly, by 54% (5,592 in total). Although "observed in all age groups", this increase "concerns more particularly young adults, in particular 20-30 years", underlines the health agency Public Health France in its last weekly update. Latest example: a focus of at least 25 cases identified in Saint-Malo (west) from a party which brought together about sixty young people.
