New corona urinalysis may predict aggravation Research Group August 4 14:57

A group at the National Center for Global Health and Medicine announced a study finding that urine tests may predict whether a new coronavirus will cause severe disease. It is a study of a specific protein contained in urine, which means that we will increase the number of patients and carry out research toward practical application in the future.

The research was conducted by a group of the National Center for Global Health and Medicine.

In the group, we investigated the relationship between the amount of a protein called “L-FABP”, which increases in urine when oxygen in the body is low, and changes in the symptoms of 41 patients who were initially mildly infected with the new coronavirus.

As a result, out of 13 people who had a higher than normal amount of this protein by urinalysis, 8 had worsening symptoms one week later, and 2 of them became so severe that they needed a ventilator. ..

On the other hand, one of the 28 people who had normal protein levels had worsening symptoms, but none of them became severe.

According to the group, since this protein can be detected by existing test kits, it is possible that urinalysis can predict the severity of disease, and we will continue to increase the number of people and carry out research.

Dr. Daisuke Katagiri of the National Center for Global Health Care said, "It is thought that this protein reacts to the hypoxic state of the organs, which leads to aggravation. Since urinalysis is less burdensome, further research is needed to put it into practical use. I want to aim".
