A ship of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), moored in the port of Beirut, was damaged and some of its sailors were injured as two powerful explosions ravaged the Lebanese capital on Tuesday (August 4th).

Wounded peacekeepers, "some seriously", were evacuated to "the nearest hospitals".

UNIFIL is currently assessing the situation, in particular its effects on its staff. "We are with the Lebanese people and government (...) and ready to provide assistance," added UNIFIL, a multinational peacekeeping force present in Lebanon since 1978.
