In the first half of July, there were torrential rains for several days in the Yangtze River basin, and waterlogging occurred in many places in the Taihu and Huaihe river basins, threatening the safety of people's lives and property. The "Water Mobile Hospital R&D Project" led by the National Emergency Medical Rescue Team of the Oriental Hospital affiliated to Tongji University was unveiled on August 2 to fill the gaps in disaster emergency rescue on waterways and realize the "water, land and air" three-dimensional rescue model.

On the opening day, a flood disaster emergency drill was held on the water of Mingzhu Lake in Chongming. The scene simulated the flood disaster in Chongming. The self-built house in the village was washed down and the two wounded were injured by the beams inside the house. The rescue team quickly established a "water rescue mobile hospital." The "Mobile Hospital on Water" used in this exercise consists of a floating platform and two detachable medical tents, equipped with an intensive care unit and a negative pressure ward.

It is reported that during the fight against the new crown pneumonia epidemic in Wuhan, the National Emergency Medical Rescue Team of Dongfang Hospital Affiliated to Tongji University supported Wuhan Living Room Fangcai Hospital in Dongxihu District, and its mobile mobile hospital and tent mobile hospital played a huge role in the treatment. This time, Dongfang Hospital and Tongji University Architectural Design and Research Institute, etc., combined engineering, materials and medical research to form a scientific and technological research team to replicate the successful experience of mobile hospitals to water medical rescue.
