[Explanation] On July 31, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Carrie Lam announced that the election of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Legislative Council originally scheduled for September 6 would be postponed for one year.

[Explanation] The chairman of the Hong Kong Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of Hong Kong, Li Huiqiong, will be re-elected to the district council (second) seat, commonly known as the "super district council". She said that she agrees and supports the government's decision and considers this a responsible choice.

We agree with the government's decision. Everyone has seen that the epidemic in Hong Kong is now very, very severe. There are more than 100 confirmed cases every day, and it lasted for the whole week without any signs of abating. Every day, there are more than 100 cases of confirmed patients who have not been arranged to be sent to the hospital. So everyone sees that Hong Kong’s medical system is actually on the verge of exploding. We believe that the government really needs to concentrate resources, spirit and ability to deal with the epidemic of this century. Because if there is no way to win this battle, Hong Kong will actually be very difficult. You said other things have become meaningless, so at this critical time, the government made this difficult decision, and then wholeheartedly do the anti-epidemic work, I think it is also a responsible decision.

[Commentary] Li Huiqiong said that the DAB attaches great importance to the election and has made full preparations, but the lives and health of the citizens are the most important and will fully cooperate with the government. Currently, the relevant campaign work has been stopped.

The DAB has gone all out to deal with every election. Of course we have formed a team and prepared our publicity strategy and work. However, it must be admitted that in the entire development of the epidemic, our elections can no longer operate as usual. It is easy to fall into the district. In fact, the issue of public concern is the epidemic. So we actually adjusted our election arrangements earlier to push the SAR government to fight the epidemic. In fact, there will be a little bit, but overall we still agree, because after all, life and health are the most important, and we will sincerely fight the epidemic with all walks of life. After the government announced yesterday, we also stopped related campaigning.
