Chernobyl has the chance of no less than three of the gala's 26 statuettes. In addition to the category best miniseries, Jared Harris can take home the award for best male lead and Stellan Skarsgård for best supporting actor.

But the Swedish-connected miniseries faces tough competition. Jared Harris will face Stephen Graham from The Virtues and Skarsgård against Josh O'Connor from The Crown. These two series are also nominated three times.

Among the evening's other favorites is also the drama comedy series Fleabag with a total of four nominations.

Gala in stripped-down version

A couple of weeks ago, the first part of Bafta's TV gala was held, where the people behind the cameras were praised. Chernobyl then became the biggest winner of the evening, with a total of seven awards.

Due to the corona pandemic, this year's Bafta Gala will be held in a stripped-down version, without a red carpet and without an audience. Several prize givers participate via video link and the winners receive their prizes remotely. The gala will be broadcast live on the British BBC on Friday night.
