38% of doctors' overtime work exceeds 960 hours a year under regulation: August 1 at 6:09

Before the upper limit regulation for overtime work was established as a reform of the working style of doctors, the national research team examined the current working hours of doctors and found that about 40% of doctors exceeded the upper limit regulation. I understand.

Regarding the reform of working styles for doctors, from 2024, four years later, a new regulation will be introduced, with some exceptions, with an upper limit for overtime work on holidays and nights of 960 hours per year.

Before the caps began, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare research group investigated the working hours of one week last September for working doctors nationwide, and analyzed the data of about 9,000 people.

As a result, it was found that 38% of the doctors worked over the upper limit of 960 hours per year.

Furthermore, from February to March this year, when the working hours of doctors were examined for 6 departments in total, including 2 university hospitals in urban and rural prefectures, it was found that working at another medical institution It turned out that there are many cases where the upper limit is exceeded when the time is adjusted.

Doctors at university hospitals often work concurrently at other medical institutions in the area, and are indispensable for community medicine.

In order to maintain the medical system while keeping the working hours including those who hold concurrent positions below the upper limit, the research group needs to increase the number of staff up to 5.97 depending on the clinical department at the university hospital surveyed this time. I expect it to be.

Based on the results of this survey, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare will consider detailed system design for the introduction of the upper limit regulation four years later.
