[Explanation] The Eastern Black Crested Gibbon in the picture is a critically endangered species in the world, and currently there are only more than 150 in the world. Their habitat is a karst forest at the junction of Bangliang Village, Renzhuang Township, Jingxi City, Guangxi and Chongqing County, Vietnam. Recently, the reporter visited the Bangliang Gibbon National Nature Reserve (hereinafter referred to as the reserve) in Guangxi.

[Commentary] Walking into the reserve, I saw mountains and dense forests. Yang Jiang is the director of the reserve management center and has served for nearly ten years. He knew everything about the habits of gibbons.

It has a habit, that is, the gibbon has hardly ever been to the ground in its entire life. It is always swinging on the trees. Therefore, the quality of the forest in our protected area must be protected. This is also the reason. If there is no tall tree to support it. , The gibbon will be unable to move.

[Explanation] However, in the 1950s, the Eastern Black Crested Gibbon (hereinafter referred to as: Gibbon) was once considered extinct in China by zoologists. It was not until May 2006 that biological experts found traces of the gibbons during a bird survey in Guangxi, which allowed this species to return to the eyes of the Chinese.

[Explanation] It is understood that the habitat of the Eastern Black Crested Gibbon straddles China and Vietnam to protect this endangered species. In 2011, the Forestry Department of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Cao Binh Province, Vietnam signed the "Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Cross-border Protection of Black Crested Gibbon and Their Habitats between China and Vietnam", agreeing to hold a joint meeting every two years. Discuss protection matters, communicate protection information to each other, formulate protection measures, and realize joint protection.

Then our two patrol teams (China and Vietnam) have more frequent exchanges. This exchange activity is carried out every two months (before the epidemic). Most of the exchanges are here at the boundary marker. We are colloquially called the "boundary marker meeting". , Especially during the annual fire and martial law, the requirement is to communicate at least once a month.

[Commentary] Yang Jiang said that patrolling mountains is not easy. In the past, we often encountered venomous snakes and venomous insects in the process of patrolling mountains. Although it was very difficult, they persisted.

When entering the mountains, we often encounter some difficulties, such as accidentally being injured, and there may be a lot of poisonous snakes and poisonous insect bites in the summer. This happens frequently, so in this case, our team generally does Three or four (persons) or more come to patrol the mountain and take care of each other.

[Explanation] It is understood that when gibbons were first discovered, there were only 3 groups of 21 gibbons in China. After more than ten years of protection in China and Vietnam, the population of gibbons has increased.

After a joint survey with Vietnam in 2018, at present, in our country, in our Bangliang Nature Reserve, there are 5 groups of Eastern Black Crested Gibbon, a total of 30, so the Vietnamese have slightly more than us, the Vietnamese There are 26 to 28 groups of gibbons in China, with a total of about 130. There are more than 150 gibbons in the two protected areas in the two countries.

[Commentary] Talking about the future, Yang Jiang said that he will continue to protect the East Black Crested Gibbon. At the same time, I hope that more people will know and protect the gibbons with him.
