The islands of Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin are the most threatened. All the Antilles were placed on orange vigilance on Wednesday at the approach of a tropical wave. It is expected to cause thunderstorms and heavy rains according to information from local authorities.

More threatened by this depression than the other islands of the Antilles, Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin could suffer from strong winds, heavy rains and thunderstorms with dangerous seas on the coast.

Two cyclone shelters prepared

The bad weather should intensify during the day on Wednesday on these two islands, after having affected Guadeloupe and Martinique, also in orange vigilance concerning thunderstorms and heavy rains.

With this change to orange vigilance, Météo-France recommends that the population be “very vigilant” because of a probable danger, specifying however that this level of alert only implies a “moderate effect”.

Instructions for the population

The community adds that “the population is invited to prepare to follow the safety instructions and to keep informed of the evolution of this tropical wave. In September 2017, Hurricane Irma killed 11 people and damaged 95% of buildings in Saint-Martin.
