Of the 15 European countries with the most confirmed cases, Spain ranks first for the cumulative incidence (cases diagnosed per 100,000 inhabitants) in the last 14 days. Until now, Russia was the one occupying the first position. However, Health reveals this Wednesday that this figure in our country has risen to 51.1 inhabitants (the previous day was, 49.2) compared to 48.9 in the Baltic country.

This is a very abrupt change compared to the previous two weeks, which shows the notable worsening of the evolution of the pandemic in our country with respect to those of our environment. On July 15, Spain had an incidence of 15.7 inhabitants. It was then Sweden who led this ranking of figures, with 81.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (today 28.4). Russia, meanwhile, was in second place with 68.2.

Active outbreaks have caused the number of infections to exceed one thousand for the first time since the end of the alarm state. The report of the Ministry of Health updated and released this Wednesday registers 1,153 new infections . At least, that's the number of cases that were tested in the last 24 hours and whose result was positive. On the other hand, the difference in the number of accumulated cases reported since the start of the pandemic between yesterday and today is 2,031 (on Tuesday the total number of infections registered was 280,610, a figure that rose to 282,641 this Wednesday). It must be remembered that this dance of figures is due to the fact that those tests that take more than a day to become known do not appear as infections diagnosed in the last 24 hours, but accumulate in the total number of positives.

In any case, the 1153 new cases recorded during the last day represents an increase of 248 compared to the previous day , when Health reported 905 positives. Most of them are concentrated in Aragon (424), Catalonia (211) and Madrid (199).

Regarding the number of deaths, the official count reports five in the last hour , so there are already 28,441 people who have lost their lives to the coronavirus in Spain. This data excludes deaths from residences and those who had symptoms compatible with Covid-19 but did not undergo a diagnostic test. With death date in the last week, the official count reports nine deceased.

More hospitalizations

Of these deaths, half correspond to Catalonia , which registers four. Castilla y León and Madrid, two; and the Valencian Community, one. The rest of the CCAA have not reported any deceased in the last seven days.

The multiplication of regrowths is also reflected in the number of hospitalizations, which continues with an upward trend. The Health report has reported 427 admissions in the last seven days (Tuesday 386), more than double than two weeks ago when 167 were registered. Of the 386, 21 patients have entered the ICU and five in the last hours. Thus, the total admissions in this hospital unit stands at 11,764.

At the European level, Spain remains in third position by number of infections (282,641), only behind Russia (823,515) and the United Kingdom (300,692). Italy and Turkey continue in fourth and fifth position, with 246,488 and 227,019 infections, respectively. The country with the highest number of deaths is still the United Kingdom (45,878), followed by Italy (35,123) and France (30,223).

By Autonomous Communities, Aragón and Madrid are the most worrying. The first reported on Wednesday of 145 hospital admissions , the quadruple that two weeks ago. Specifically, on July 15 this region reported 34 hospitalizations. An alarming increase in the Madrid community, where the outbreaks detected have led to the admission of 75 patients in the last seven days, almost triple the number during the week of July 8 to 15, when 27 were reported.
