Aomori Prefecture and Rokkasho Village Reprocessing plant that has passed the examination for safety top priority 4: July 30, 4:58

At the reprocessing plant in Aomori Prefecture, which passed the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's examination, which is a prerequisite for operation, on the 29th, local governments are calling for the highest priority to ensure safety.

The spent nuclear fuel reprocessing plant in Rokkasho Village, Aomori Prefecture, is a key facility of the nuclear fuel cycle policy of the country that extracts and reuses plutonium from the spent nuclear fuel at nuclear power plants.

After passing the examination by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for six and a half years on the 29th, the operator, Japan Nuclear Fuel, says there is no change in the policy of full-scale operation next year.

In response to this, Aomori Prefecture and Rokkasho Village have often had troubles so far, and have issued a comment requesting that safety be given top priority.

Mr. Naohiro Masuda, president of the Japan Nuclear Fuel, said that he is promoting the response by saying, "We are conducting training at facilities and premises in Tokai-mura, Ibaraki prefecture and are focusing on training engineers."

In addition, safety measures are currently being implemented at the factory, and there is a question as to how much safety can be improved in the future.
