  • The Regional Health Agency has announced new free screening operations along the Gironde coast.
  • Since the beginning of the summer, it has been everywhere and vacationers are waiting for you.
  • The ARS notes some tensions on the samplers. It will increase training for medical students, SDIS and civil protection.

This Tuesday afternoon, the Regional Health Agency in New Aquitaine announces new free Covid-19 screening operations, particularly on the Girondin coastline while the summer season is in full swing. In recent weeks, centers have emerged at the exit of the beaches as in Arcachon or Pyla-sur-Mer.

The objective is of course to encourage locals and holidaymakers to come and be tested in these areas where the density has become higher than usual, and barrier gestures not always respected. So does it work? Prof. Patrick Dehail, medical adviser to the director general of the ARS, makes an initial assessment for 20 Minutes.

Are there crowds in these screening centers?

Yes, it works pretty well. It is difficult to give precise figures but we welcome between 100 and 200 people per day for the moment. We see people stop with the towel under their arm, that's the goal. The results are satisfactory. There is a lot of people.

Really ?

Yes, afterwards we can always do better. The main thing is to be well positioned and visible to people. This is the case for example in Lacanau and there are a lot of people. We also try to broadcast information through loudspeakers to encourage holidaymakers to come and be tested if they have the slightest doubt.

Is it fast because people are on vacation?

It is even very fast. It doesn't take more than ten minutes. As I told you, some even come out of the beach.

How long will the device last?

At least August 31. After the device is scalable. We adapt according to the feedback from doctors in the field, the development of clusters ... Apart from Arcachon and La-Teste-de-Buch where it is open from Monday to Friday, we offer days with slots on other stands. You have to communicate well. Finally, it also depends on the arms available.

Do you have any concerns in this regard?

No worries, but at times you can be in tension. There is no tension on the reagents or the laboratories, but only on the samplers. We have alerts with the holiday period and the last very busy months. We decided to increase training, particularly for medical students, the SDIS (firefighters) and civil protection.

And more generally on the health situation?

The priority is always to control the clusters. Then, over the last few days, we noticed a change in people's behavior after a release, that's a good thing. The information on the situation in the region has surely had its effects. The barrier gestures must really continue to be better respected, in particular the wearing of a mask. And then as soon as we have alerts, we try to remedy them. This week, we should open two other stands in Bordeaux [where six of the nine clusters in the region are listed] in the Grand-Parc and Chartrons districts.
