The Official Gazette of the Macau Special Administrative Region published today (27th) Administrative Regulation No. 27/2020 "Automatic Recognition of Portuguese Degrees and Diplomas", which came into effect on July 28 this year. According to this regulation, persons holding higher education degrees awarded by Portuguese institutions of higher learning can enjoy the same rights as holders of corresponding higher education degrees and diplomas awarded by institutions of higher learning in the Macao Special Administrative Region. Those who hold higher education qualifications awarded by higher education institutions in Macau only need to apply online for recognition of academic qualifications to be recognized by Portugal.

  After the above-mentioned administrative regulations take effect, those who hold higher education degrees awarded by Portuguese institutions of higher learning only need to show the original diploma or certificate issued by the Portuguese institution of higher learning, or a copy of the diploma or document certified by the local competent authority. Recognized by the Macao Special Administrative Region Government, it enjoys the same rights as owners of corresponding higher education degrees and diplomas awarded by higher education institutions in Macao Special Administrative Region.

  According to reports, in mid-May 2019, the Macao SAR Government and Portugal signed the "Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Portuguese Republic on Promoting Automatic Recognition of Diploma and Degree." In order to fulfill the obligations set out in the memorandum and observe the principle of reciprocity, the Macao Special Administrative Region Government today promulgated Administrative Regulation No. 27/2020 "Automatic Recognition of Portuguese Degrees and Diplomas".

  In addition, Portugal published a general resolution in the "Gazette of the Portuguese Republic" on October 8, 2019, automatically accrediting the Macau SAR associate degree, as well as bachelor degrees (including double majors and double bachelors), master degrees, and doctorate degrees. Those who hold a degree/diploma awarded by a higher education institution in the Macau Special Administrative Region, only need to log on to the website of the Portuguese General Administration of Higher Education to apply for academic recognition, including filling in the relevant forms, uploading a photocopy of the certificate and paying the processing fee, and the relevant department will issue to the applicant Certificate of academic recognition.
