[Explanation] Zhu Xuelan, the party branch secretary of Shanping Village, Liubao Town, Cangwu County, Wuzhou City, Guangxi, led the village on a unique road to poverty alleviation by planting Liubao tea. Recently, the reporter approached Zhu Xuelan to learn about her relationship with tea.

[Explanation] Shanping Village, where Zhu Xuelan is located, is a remote Yao village located in a mountainous area. Because of the previous inconvenient transportation and information blocking, Shanping Village was rated as a poor village in 2015.

In the past, our Shanping Village was in Liubao Town. Our Shanping Village was a very backward place. We all lived on the hillside and lived in mud houses. There were no roads, and the roads we walked were all twists and turns. Yes, it takes three or four hours to walk to Liupu (town).

[Explanation] In order to change the old appearance of poverty and backwardness in the village, Zhu Xuelan locked business opportunities in Liubao Tea. Zhu Xuelan said that there has always been a tradition of growing Liubao tea in the village. As a result, she led the villagers to transform 300 acres of low-yield tea gardens, and then expanded them by more than 300 acres.

[Explanation] Due to proper management, the Liubao tea in Shanping Village has been planted at a high altitude, and its quality has been improved and its output has also been continuously improved. In order to open up the market, Zhu Xuelan took the lead in the establishment of a cooperative, which "linked" the villagers to plant and process tea, and "brought" merchants to buy it. Under her leadership, Liubao tea has become a new source of income for the Yao compatriots in Shanping Village and helped the locals remove their poverty hats.

Now every family has a small western-style building, and no one is a dilapidated house. After 2016, our entire village has been lifted out of poverty and we have a stable income in terms of industry.

[Explanation] Deng Yongxiong, a 46-year-old villager in Shanping Village, grows nearly 20 acres of tea garden. In recent years, Deng Yongxiong has improved his life by planting Liubao tea. He introduced that before, they used to cut wood for their livelihoods, and a family of six lived in a house made of yellow mud bricks. Today, the mud brick house has become a warehouse for storing Liubao tea, and its income has also doubled.

I used to make wood and go up the mountain to chop wood, so I didn't make much income. Since I planted this tea, my life has slowly changed, and now it is much better. Now I have more than 100,000 (income) a year.

[Explanation] Zhu Xuelan said that the next step is to combine Liubao tea culture with Yao culture, explore potential tourism resources in the village, and show the new image of Yaozhai in Shanping Village.

[Explanation] It is reported that the current total area of Liubao tea planting in Cangwu County is nearly 80,000 mu, and the villagers' annual per capita income has increased from the previous 5,000 yuan to 9,000 yuan. In 2019, the county's tea production was about 3,000 tons, with a direct output value of about 480 million yuan.
