Britney Spears has been declared incompetent since 2008, after a period of mental illness - something that, among other things, resulted in the high-profile incident when she suddenly shaved her hair in front of the paparazzo photographers' cameras.

The digital trial that began this week would have been about the pop star's guardianship, but according to American media, it had to be canceled prematurely. The reason was that uninvited participants refused to leave the meeting, despite requests from the judge.

Who it was that disturbed the meeting is unclear. The trial has now been postponed until August 19, according to Variety.

The "Free Britney" movement

The fact that Britney Spears has not had legal control over her personal finances or wealth for over a decade has provoked reactions among some of her fans.

In recent times, the so-called "Free Britney" movement (roughly: liberate Britney) has become increasingly active. It demands that the 38-year-old pop star be released from the "prison" they believe she lives in.

Britney Spears is said to have a capital of just over SEK 522 million. Over the years, these have been controlled mainly by her father Jamie, who has been her guardian for most of the time.

Wants to cancel the declaration of incapacity

The "Free Britney" movement is mostly online, and has, among other things, submitted name collections to the White House, to get her status as a declared minor.

Many of them claim that Spears is being manipulated and controlled by the people around her, something that sources close to the pop star deny.

Britney Spears' declaration of incapacity runs until 22 August 2020. It has already been extended twice during the year.
