When India suddenly shut down, the population had a very short time to adapt to a new reality. Hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people lost their jobs in one day and had to return home from the city to the countryside - on foot. Many died on the way from hunger, says Reshma Mansuri Löw.

She and her husband Mattias Löw remained in the country for four months during the shutdown. They decided to portray the fear and anxiety they saw. Parts of the not yet completed photo essay project are now shown in a digital exhibition at Fotografiskt center Köpenhamn.
