The British government announced the implementation details of the British National (Overseas) Passport (BNO) visa policy, and plans to implement it in early 2021. On July 23, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin stated that the British side, regardless of China’s solemn representations, insisted on political manipulation on the issue of British National (Overseas) passports, blatantly violated its promises, violated international law and the basic norms of international relations, and had serious concerns about Hong Kong affairs. China resolutely opposes arbitrary interference in China's internal affairs. As the British side violated its commitment first, China will consider not recognizing the British National (Overseas) passport as a valid travel document and reserves the right to take further measures.
