Having become compulsory in many places, the surgical mask has a significant cost for many families. A cost that the State is ready to assume for the most precarious declared the Minister of Health on Tuesday, July 21 to the National Assembly.

Asked about this during the question-and-answer session with the government, Olivier Véran announced: "The State soon distributed 5 million free masks (...) and we are going to restart this distribution of free masks intended for precarious populations, particularly those who benefit from complementary solidarity health ”.

A price capped by the government

An announcement touched on a few hours earlier by the Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire. Invited by Franceinfo, he had specified: "Do you need additional support? I think it's a good debate, I don't have the answer this morning, but I think it's a question that should be looked at carefully ”.

Since Monday, wearing a mask has become mandatory in closed public places to stop a resumption of the coronavirus epidemic, and may even be worth a fine of 135 euros in the event of an offense. If the government has capped the price of the surgical mask at 95 cents, "this can indeed represent a significant cost for families," agreed Mr. Le Maire, stressing that companies and administrations were already equipping their employees.

Pointing to this problem of "additional cost for precarious populations", the association of consumers CLCV asked Monday in a press release "a monthly financial assistance of 50 euros per person making up the family".
