The Grand Est was the sexonder the covid-19. For a long time, Haut-Rhin was even "one of the infectious centers of the epidemic in Europe", writes INSEE in a study published on Tuesday. She is particularly interested in excess mortality from March 2 to May 10.

During these two months and one week, the Grand Est recorded 15,240 deaths, against an average of 10,300 for the same period between 2015 and 2019. It is therefore about 5,000 additional deaths (an excess of 48%) that were to be deplored, particularly in the Haut-Rhin. The department 68 more than doubled its deaths (+ 113%), where its neighbor Bas-Rhin and the Vosges were not spared either (+ 58%). The Moselle follows (+ 47%) while the Ardennes are doing well (+ 7%).

Another lesson from the study is that it is not surprisingly people over the age of 70 who have been most affected, especially men.
