Toyosu Market Land Purchase Trial Today Judgment Tokyo District Court July 21 8:02

The Tokyo District Court handed down a verdict on the 21st when a lawsuit was filed by residents saying that it was illegal for the city to purchase it for 57.8 billion yen while knowing that the land in the Toyosu Market in Tokyo had soil pollution.

Regarding the purchase of land at Toyosu Market from Tokyo Gas etc. by Tokyo in 2011, 40 residents said that it was illegal to pay a high price while knowing that there was soil pollution. I asked former Governor Shintaro Ishihara to pay more than ¥57.8 billion for the purchase price.

In response, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government argued that "it is not illegal for Tokyo Gas, etc. to spend a large amount of money to deal with soil pollution measures based on the agreement, and to purchase them at the market price as uncontaminated land."

In addition, former Governor Shintaro Ishihara, who participated in the trial as an auxiliary participant, argued, "There was no candidate site other than Toyosu as a relocation destination and it was an appropriate contract."

In this case, the Tokyo District Court will hand down the judgment at 3:00 pm on the 21st.

Governor Koike, who was appointed four years ago in Toyosu Market, postponed the relocation because of insufficient security, and the court's judgment is noteworthy whether the purchase of land was illegal.
