UN JOUR UN TUBE (12/32) - All summer long, Europe 1 invites you to discover a song that has marked summer every day. Today, "Succès fou", by Christophe.

In 1983, no one resisted Christophe, who made a remarkable comeback with his aptly named title  Succès Fou . Revealed in 1965 with a romantic slow  Aline , which sells more than a million copies, the singer Christophe then went on with other successes: in the early 70s, he collaborated with a young lyricist, Jean- Michel Jarre, with whom he created the album  Les Paradis perdus. But at the beginning of the 80s, after a daring rock album praised by critics but misunderstood by the public, Christophe experienced a small empty passage. It is only thanks to his daring stroll in the summer of 1983 that he will make his comeback.

A song started in Antibes and finished in Paris

The story of this song begins in Antibes, on the Côte d'Azur, where Christophe spends summer holidays in 1982. He then buys a Gibson Byrdland guitar of the same model as that which Elvis Presley owned in the 1950s. this guitar, Christophe composes a first verse and back in Paris, he finishes the music. It only remains to find lyrics.

A scent at the origin of the tube

One night, while strolling Place Vendôme in Paris, Christophe's attention is drawn to the window of a perfume shop in which he sees a bottle called Succès Fou. He then had the idea of making it a song about a falling man who no woman could resist. The lyrics are written overnight. Succès Fou is going to carry its title well since the disc will sell more than 700,000 copies and allow the singer to make a new smashing return.
