30,152 deaths in France

The epidemic has left 14 dead since Thursday, bringing the total number of deaths to 30,152 since the start of the epidemic in France, announced Friday the Directorate General of Health. According to the DGS daily report, 19,611 people sick with Covid-19 died in French hospitals. The figures in social and medico-social establishments, including nursing homes, will be updated on Tuesday, July 21. The decline in the number of patients with a severe form, in intensive care, continues very slightly, with 477 patients, four fewer since Thursday. A total of 6,688 people are hospitalized for a Covid-19 infection and 119 new admissions were recorded in 24 hours.

The circulation of the virus increases

The DGS also points to an increase in the circulation of the virus on the territory. "3,800 cases per week, increase in the use of SOS doctors, emergency room visits, the number of 'clusters', 600 hospitalizations per week, including more than 70 in intensive care," she said in her press release.

This situation "is in the context where a very insufficient proportion of patients with symptoms perform a virological test", warns the organization, which recommends the adoption "collectively and rigorously (d) es preventive measures, including the wearing of the mask in closed collective spaces ".

"Outside of Mayenne, the progression remains moderate and therefore controllable by the strict application of the measures by each of us". For its part, "Mayenne is experiencing a rapid epidemic evolution, according to Santé Publique France, and is classified as a high level of vulnerability while in Guyana, at the same level," the epidemic peak seems to have been exceeded ". Finally, in Mayotte , "the epidemic peak has been exceeded and the epidemic continues to decrease", underlines Santé Publique France.

Concerning Brittany, the health situation is "not alarming", and the circulation of the coronavirus remains "weak" there despite an increase in the reproduction rate due to the discovery of several epidemic foci.

Recovery plan: blocking of negotiations in Brussels

To try to overcome the economic crisis caused by the virus, European leaders resume their difficult negotiations in Brussels on Saturday, started the day before, on a massive recovery plan. The goal of this summit, with a very uncertain outcome and which could extend until Sunday, is to find an agreement on a post-coronavirus aid project of 750 billion euros, financed by a joint loan. It is made up of 250 billion euros in loans and - above all - 500 billion in grants, which will therefore not have to be repaid by the beneficiary states (mainly Italy and Spain).

The proposal came up against the inflexibility of the states that were followers of budgetary orthodoxy (called "frugal"), the Netherlands and Austria in the lead, who wanted to reduce the envelope of subsidies. After more than seven hours of discussions in conclave on Friday, the "27" gathered for a dinner where the exchanges became tense because of the position deemed too hard by the Netherlands on the control of the funds which could be distributed.

Barcelonans invited to "stay at home"

In Spain, the inhabitants of Barcelona were called Friday to "stay at home", facing an almost tripling in one week of the number of cases. It's "the last chance" to avoid tougher measures, warned Meritxell Budo, spokeswoman for the Catalan regional government. The authorities have also announced the closure of cinemas, theaters and nightclubs, a ban on meetings of more than ten people and visits to retirement homes, the limitation of seating capacity to 50% in bars and restaurants .

The Spanish authorities have been monitoring more than 120 active households for several days, in particular in Catalonia.
