This date was not chosen at random, since it is to pay tribute to the former Head of State, who died on September 26, 2019. For two days, the town of Sarran (Corrèze) will have the exclusivity on this limited edition, then it will be offered to the entire population at a price of 97 cents.

The former president was a philatelist

The stamp, designed by Sarah Bougault, was presented by La Poste on July 16 because in 1995, it was the day when Jacques Chirac held a tribute speech on the Vel d'Hiv, specifies local radio. During this event, the former President of the Republic recognized the responsibility of the country in the deportation of the Jews during the Second World War.

The choice of design was made by his daughter, Claude Chirac. It was she who proposed several photos of her father to the artist, specifies France Bleu Limousin . She then chose the final representation among three drawings which were submitted to her.

Jacques Chirac was also a philatelist. “Claude Chirac told me that he found stamp albums in his father's boxes. Jacques Chirac said of the stamp that it was "a miniature world in which everyone can project themselves, find education and above all dream", "explained Ségolène Godeluck, director of communication for Phil @ poste, the philately branch from the post office.
