The Yellow River Water Resources Commission quoted relevant sources as saying that the current flood control situation in the Yangtze River and Taihu Basin in China is still grim. It is expected that the rain belt will be lifted northward in the later period. Regional floods may occur in northern rivers such as the middle reaches of the Yellow River and the Huaihe River. The frequent flooding period of the "seventh and eighth" of the Yellow River mainly refers to the second half of July to the first half of August every year. The annual major floods also occur from July to August. The Huayuankou Hydrological Station has more than 10,000 cubic meters of floods per second, 12 times during the "seven times and eight times" period, accounting for 67%. Therefore, the Yellow River flood control during this period needs to be highly vigilant.
According to meteorological forecasts, this year's flood season, China's overall climatic conditions are biased, extreme weather and climate events are more, and the overall precipitation is spatial distribution of "more north and south, less in the middle", waterlogging is more important than drought. In this year's flood season, the upper reaches of the Yellow River, the Weihe River, and the Yellow River's Xiaohua have more inflows, and large regional floods may occur. However, the regional drought in midsummer may be heavier than normal, and the task of flood and drought prevention is very difficult.
Facing the complicated and severe flood control situation, the Yellow River Water Resources Commission said that according to the deployment of the Ministry of Water Resources, flood control has been regarded as the most important central task at present, and various defense measures have been strengthened in a targeted manner.
