The shooting of Supreme, a biopic dedicated to the rap group of the 90s composed by Joeystarr and Kool Shen, will start in August, announced the distributor. The opportunity to retrace the career of this legendary duo.

The group Supreme NTM is going to have the right to its biopic and the shooting begins in August. Two years after the last concert of the legendary rap group of the 90s, formed by Joeystarr and Kool Shen, the biopic will retrace the artistic journey of this shocking duo from the suburbs of Seine-Saint-Denis. The film should be released in dark cinemas in 2021. For the moment, we must take its pain in patience. And for the impatient: the first images of the filming were unveiled by Sony Picture Entertainment France.

A film, a career

Supreme tells about the birth of the NTM group and makes us (re) discover the beginnings of the famous rap group engaged, against a backdrop of clashes between the police and the suburbs, until their consecration at Zenith in Paris in 1992. At the helm of film: Audrey Estrougo, known in particular for directing Sophie Marceau in 2016 in La taularde . "It always seemed important to me to be able to make a film about the arrival of hip hop culture and what it represented for the generation" of Kool Shen and Joeystarr, she explained to the AFP.

Joey star and Kool Shen ready to invest

Théo Christine from the Skam series, and Sandor Funtek, seen in particular in Adèle's life, were, moreover, chosen to embody the shock duo. And the resemblance to the originals is striking. "We are happy that this film exists. We met Théo and Sandor. They are super motivated and hardworking. And we trust Audrey, with whom we worked on the script to deliver a film faithful to our beginnings and our history" , declared the members of the NTM group in a press release, delighted by this project and ready to participate in it.

"These young people needed to come together in a new culture, which was not embodied in the standards of variety of the time, without diversity. We are in 2020, hip hop has become ultra mainstream (mainstream, Editor's note) And yet rap is still scum music ", adds the director.

The group, formed in 1988, became known for their authentic "flow" and their committed texts full of poetry, melancholy but also aggressiveness. My Benz , Police  or The world of tomorrow are all titles that will be remembered. The group stops releasing new titles from 1998. It will reform all the same twice: in 2008, to celebrate the group's 20 years and in 2018, for the 30 years.
