Another 2 elementary school students have won tea research and drink tea against cancer

Beijing News (Reporter Xu Meihui) Following the "Kunming Elementary School Student Awarded for Cancer Research" event, more award-winning research on the National Youth Science and Technology Innovation Contest entered the public eye, including two elementary school students' "drinking tea against cancer" project, with netizens Point out that the project also exceeds the scope of primary school students. "Anti-tumor experimental study of tea polyphenols" is the result of a joint study between a fifth-grade elementary school student and a third-grade elementary school student of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. The project used green tea extract tea polyphenols as a control experiment in nude mice. Finally, the green tea extract catechol EGCG has a certain anti-tumor effect. The research won the third prize of the 33rd National Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition.

The two research-related photos published on the official website showed that the study set up three groups, namely 1-control group, 2-EGCG, and 3-doxorubicin, and placed three groups of nude mice and tumor photos taken.

Some netizens pointed out that this experiment requires strong logic and rigor, and questioned "Dare to take the heart, liver, spleen, lungs and kidneys of a mouse so small".

The project brief mentions: Many experts said that drinking tea can prevent cancer. Tea polyphenols are the main active ingredient in tea and a natural antioxidant. This project is mainly to explore the anti-tumor effect of EGCG, the main component of tea polyphenols in tea, and to study how to prove that drinking tea can prevent cancer in laboratory animals, so as to verify that drinking tea can fight cancer.

In this project, a model of cancer in nude mice was established, and the main component of tea polyphenols in green tea extract, EGCG, was used as the test drug to study its in vivo efficacy in a liver tumor disease model of nude mice. Twenty-five days after drug treatment, the tumor volume of the EGCG group was found to be smaller than that of the saline group and the adriamycin group. This experiment showed that the green tea extract catechol EGCG had a certain anti-tumor effect.

"Therefore, the experiment proves that drinking more tea can prevent cancer and fight cancer. This statement makes sense. Everyone should drink more tea, which is good for your health!" the project introduction wrote.

According to official information, the research won the third prize of the 33rd National Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition, which belongs to the elementary school group. The instructors are Wang Qian and Xiong Tu. At the same time, the project won the first prize of the 33th Hubei Provincial Youth Science and Technology Innovation Contest Science and Technology Innovation Achievement Project.

In this regard, a reporter from the Beijing News called the Wuhan Science and Technology Association today. The Wuhan Science and Technology Association responded that it had been informed of the matter and had intervened in the investigation.

As a specific department submitted for the research project, a staff member of the Training Department of the Wuhan Science and Technology Museum told reporters that the department leader is verifying the investigation.

The school where the students of this project are located is an elementary school affiliated to Huazhong University of Science and Technology. A staff member of the school said that the matter is not yet clear. The school is on holiday and the teacher in charge of this field is not currently in the school.
