"Don't forget them"

"I came specially from Cagnes-sur-Mer to commemorate the attack in tribute to the disappeared, if we forget them, who died for whom?" Why ? A fanatic who passed by there and then ... ", testified Lucien, a pensioner of the building, in reference to the driver of the heavy truck which mowed these lives, before being shot down by the police officers. Sabine, a fifty-year-old civil servant in Nice, also explained that she had moved to "not forget them", because "what they experienced must have been terrible, and for the families who remain".

A few relatives of the victims had taken their places in a rostrum facing the Promenade des Anglais, under the beams, separated from the public by a barrier. Among them, the writer Thierry Vimal, who lost his daughter Amie, 12, in the attack, and told of his ordeal in a book, "19 tonnes". "It's good, it's nice that people came, but there is always a barrier between them and us, and we are on the wrong side of the barrier," he noted, speaking of an absence, that of his daughter, who remains today "a permanent presence".

The security system blacklisted

While last month the anti-terrorist prosecutor's office requested a trial at the assizes for the nine people who were in contact with the perpetrator of the attack, in particular for the supply of weapons, Thierry Vimal, also a member of the association of victims Promenade des Anges, for its part deplored the lack of progress in the investigation. Open in Nice for "endangering the lives of others" and extended to "homicides and involuntary injuries", it concerns the security system put in place that evening to protect the 30,000 people who attended this July 14, 2016 fireworks fired on the Promenade.
