It was in Bristol, UK, that a statue of slave trader Edward Colston was overturned and thrown into the water in early June. The statue was overturned during a demonstration for Black lives matter - a movement that gained new momentum after African-American George Floyd was strangled to death during a police intervention.

Now a new statue has been erected in the same place, reports The Guardian. The statue that was replaced by Colston represents Black lives matter protester Jen Reid, one of the protesters who was present when the Colston statue was overthrown.

The statue is called A surge of power (a surge of power) and was created by the artist Marc Quinn. The inspiration came from a photo of Reid when she, with her fist in the air, stood where the statue of Colston previously stood.

The statue of Jen Reid has not been approved by the local authorities, who also did not comment on the future of the statue that was erected on Wednesday morning.
