A gorilla has been tested in Miami, United States, to reveal the possibility of an emerging coronavirus after suffering a low-grade fever, according to the state's zoo.

According to the Washington Post, the 31-year-old gorilla, Shango, received the tests - which were negative - while receiving medical treatment for a wound from a large bite, according to the Miami Zoo.

Garden officials said the animal was wounded by his 26-year-old brother, "Barney", when they clashed in a conflict.

The zoo added that the gorilla was taken Wednesday to an animal hospital, where he received x-rays, vaccinations, ultrasound and others.

Officials said that although the bite wounds seemed "very deep", there was no indication that there would be permanent damage.

He has since been returned to the gorilla area, where he will be closely monitored as he continues to recover.

The zoo said no decision had been made on when to reunite "Shango" with his younger brother.

She explained that quarrels among adult male gorillas are not common, but most consist of many situations and rarely lead to serious injuries.
