Ten years ago, I studied the Rubik's Cube in the "Yangzi Evening News" and now his "Cube Spell" has set a world record

"This year's college entrance examination students are not easy. I spelled them with Rubik's Cube. I hope the Yangzi Evening News reporters will take a look." Last week, the Yangzi Evening News hotline received such a call. 75-year-old Li Changyuan is a teacher at Nangang Technical School. After retirement, reading Yangtze Evening News every day became his greatest fun. In 2008, a reporter from the Yangtze Evening News accidentally discovered that a parent in Nanjing had a lot of research on Rubik's cube speed twisting, and made a series of reports on Rubik's cube speed twisting and blind twisting. After seeing it, Li Changyuan decided to learn to twist the cube. Today, his Rubik's cube spelling has set a Guinness record. Coincidentally, the reporter who came to interview him this time and the reporter who wrote the report happened to be the same person. Intern Wang Jin

Watch "Yangtze Evening News" and the Rubik's Cube, set foot on the "research road"

Li Changyuan told reporters that he saw a Rubik’s Cube champion who can restore the Rubik’s Cube in more than 5 seconds in the “Yangtze Evening News” in 2008, and some people can also restore the Rubik’s Cube with blindfolded eyes. After reading the report, Li Changyuan, a teacher, wanted to understand that there are innumerable changes in the arbitrary disruption of the third-order Rubik's Cube, and how many times to turn in one second, and how many times to turn in order to recover. Therefore, he began to consult the mathematical data, thinking about the changes of the Rubik's Cube with permutation and combination thinking.

Old Man Li Changyuan was not satisfied with talking on paper, and immediately bought a third-order Rubik's cube to verify it. One test is two years. There are several books in the calculation book. The third-order Rubik's Cube has played a dozen bad games, but it can only recover four faces.

Seeing that his father was so persistent, his daughter bought a decryption book for the Rubik's Cube. Li Changyuan was happy when he got the formula book. He studied the formulas day by day while wearing reading glasses, and found that the formulas were also wrong. But the old man relied on the ideas provided by the formula, deduced and calculated over and over again, corrected the mistakes of the formula, and finally solved the last three who could not be recovered.

After recovery, the old man Li Changyuan did not slack for a moment. He disrupted the Rubik’s Cube again and again every day and then recovered: “I play Rubik’s Cube without comparing speed with others. Those young people spin 20 times a second, and I can only turn once a second. I He can only study slowly, practice more, and turn more." In less than a year, he found out the restoration methods of the fourth-order, fifth-order, apple-shaped, strip-shaped, and triangular cubes.

Try to spell words on the Rubik's Cube and set a Guinness World Record

On the day I played the eighth-order Rubik's Cube in 2013, I suddenly discovered that different color blocks of the Rubik's Cube can spell out some simple patterns. Li Changyuan thought, "Since the cube can be used to spell out the picture, can it be spelled out?"

Li Changyuan used the eighth-order Rubik's cube to spell words, and began to encounter various problems: the word was spelled out, the surrounding color blocks were messy, the orientation of the words was inverted, and the color block spelling of the odd-even-order cube was different... He will record a problem in his notebook. On the evening when his family is resting, he turns on the night light and thinks and delves into the formula over and over again. After pondering over half a year of research, Li Changyuan can finally spell out words slowly.

With the upgrade of Chinese character strokes, the difficulty is getting bigger and bigger. Because of the limited number of Chinese characters he can spell for Rubik's Cube of different orders, for example, the side of a 17th-order Rubik's Cube has a 15×15 spellable area. It can spell up to four characters, and the stroke of each word cannot exceed eight strokes. These words have to be carefully designed in the early stage. Elder Li Changyuan usually prepares the typeface design draft more than ten days in advance. Considering the beauty of the checkered spelling, Li Changyuan also consulted the calligraphy materials and incorporated the characteristics of calligraphy into it...

2015 was the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Anti-Japanese War. Li Changyuan spelled 22 words such as "Anti-Japanese War, Memorial, Seventy Years, Heart and Heart, Everyone" on the Rubik's Cube. The 13th-order Rubik's Cube has a weight of 3 pounds and can only be placed on the table to "fiddle". One stop is three or four hours. In 2015, Li Changyuan submitted an application for world records in June, and sent out his materials and works on July 18, which was quickly approved. He got the certificate in December.

After that, Li Changyuan saw the appearance of the 17th-order Rubik's Cube, and entrusted his daughter to buy it back online at a high price of 4,000 yuan. On November 20, 2018, Li Changyuan successfully spelled out "Kang Fu Mei High-tech China, and the world is a public hand and foot" twice on the six faces of the world's highest-order 17th-order cube. The World Record Certificate issued by Records Co., Ltd. and China’s World First Certification Agency.

After the college entrance examination, Li Changyuan spelled out a "talent mind" in front of the reporter. He said that this year's candidates are not easy. Talent prosperity is national prosperity. It is a pity for the country to cultivate and value talents.
