Cannes (Alpes-Maritimes) after the heavy rain of the previous day, Sunday November 24, 2019. - FREDERIC DIDES / AP / SIPA

The state of natural disaster was recognized by ministerial decree on June 16 and entered in the Official Journal this Friday. It concerns the heavy rains from 23 to 24 November 2019 which led to floods and land movements throughout the department.

This decree concerns four municipalities in the Alpes-Maritimes: Bar-sur-Loup, Briançonnet, Castellar and Villefranche-sur-Mer. The first three are beneficiaries of the state of natural disaster for "ground movements" and the last for "floods by mechanical shock of the waves".

Ten days to register for insurance

In its press release, the prefecture informs that the victims have "ten days from the publication of the decree" to file declare the "losses they have suffered with their insurance companies in order to benefit from the compensation scheme "

The bad weather of November 2019 had necessitated the triggering of the siren alert in the Alpes-Maritimes prohibiting the inhabitants from circulating in the streets.
