Gérald Darmanin underlines in a press release having had a "telephone exchange" with the Defender of rights, Jacques Toubon, who considered "urgent" to change the maintenance of order.

Gérald Darmanin specifies that he asked "his services to study the remarks and recommendations made" by Jacques Toubon, who leaves independent authority in a week after six years at its helm. The Defender of Rights calls in particular for the ban on the defense ball launcher (LBD) and the wearing of a hood by the police.

"Republican imperative"

The new policing scheme was developed by Gérald Darmanin's predecessor, Christophe Castaner. "Faced with evolving protest methods, with particularly violent individuals whose sole objective is to create chaos, maintaining order is a republican imperative," added the minister, who recalled "his support for the forces of 'order'.
