Three departments of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur are experiencing significant levels of ozone pollution, which led the authorities to trigger the "alert" threshold for Friday. In a very hot and sunny climate, "the weather conditions are favorable for the formation of ozone" in the departments of Bouches-du-Rhône, Var and Vaucluse, according to the quality monitoring body of the air AtmoSud.

The alert level will be triggered on Friday as it is expected that the information-recommendation threshold will be exceeded for the 2nd consecutive day. Emergency measures aimed at reducing pollutant emissions are being implemented in the departments concerned by the alert procedure.

20 km / h reduction

The prefectures provide in particular “for a reduction of 20 km / h in the maximum authorized speeds without going below 70 km / h”. In Toulon, for example, the maximum speed on the highway crossing the city will be lowered from 90 to 70 km / h.

It is also recommended for frail people to avoid the practice of intense physical or sports activities outdoors, and to avoid going out when the sun is at its maximum. This is the first episode of ozone pollution in the region this summer, when the start of the hot summer of 2019 was marked by an intense and early episode.
