Second visit to the police since his appointment last Saturday. Prime Minister Jean Castex expressed his support on Friday in Dijon for the security forces, "at the heart of the republican and democratic pact", and for his Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin who accompanied him on this trip.

"In this society plagued by unacceptable trends, you are at the heart of the republican and democratic pact that more than ever the State intends to defend with the determination that applies to the most essential causes of our democracy", stressed the head of government in a brief speech after a visit to the police station.

"I have come to tell you the total commitment, the total determination of the President of the Republic, of the government of the Republic, to defend those who are attacked, foremost among whom are the women and men whose mission it is to 'ensure the protection of others and of society', he insisted.

"Unacceptable behavior"

The violence in the Dijon district of Grésilles and in Chenôve, in the outskirts of Dijon, had taken place from June 12 to 15 after a series of reprisals launched by members of the Chechen community who wanted to take revenge on the aggression against a teenager they blamed on sizzling dealers.

The head of government said he was "scandalized" by "unacceptable behavior" in Dijon, where he traveled "to support action and the fight against any form of violence, any form of communitarianism that would undermine values of the Republic ".

Support for Gérald Darmanin

The Prime Minister also once again supported the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin, under the fire of criticism from feminist associations, who "benefits from all our confidence to exercise this high office".

The Minister "will put all his intelligence, all his determination and I was going to say all the affection he will bring to all the women and men who make up the public service that you represent, not only to defend it but to increase still its capacity for action, "assured the head of government.

Feminist rallies are announced Friday in several cities in France against the government reshuffle after the appointments of Gérald Darmanin, accused of rape, at the Ministry of the Interior, and Eric Dupond-Moretti, very critical of the #MeToo movement, in Justice.
