He asks for caution. "We must prepare for a resumption of the epidemic (of Covid-19), even a second wave", which is possible "this fall or this winter," said the Director General of Health, Jérôme Salomon, in Le Figaro Wednesday. "We do not know everything about the seasonal behavior of this virus which is still circulating", indicates the N.2 of the Ministry of Health. "All state services, professionals, actors in the field are mobilized to manage the current clusters (foci of infection, editor's note) and anticipate an epidemic rebound this fall or this winter", he adds in this interview for which his responses were sent in writing to the newspaper.

"What we have to understand is that it is essentially our behavior that conditions the epidemic recovery: if we want to avoid this, each and everyone must continue to respect the barrier measures, hygiene measures, physical distance and wearing a mask, especially in a promiscuous situation and in an enclosed space ”, continues Professor Salomon.

0.94% of positive tests in France (outside Guyana)

"If the situation deteriorates again, we have several risk management measures available: local information, protection of the most vulnerable, strengthening of barrier measures, consider measures to limit travel for example," says he. "The response, as from the start, will have to be proportionate to the seriousness of the threat and assessed according to local knowledge and situation," he said. Currently, France performs "nearly 300,000 PCR tests per week and has performed 2 million since deconfinement", which provides "a good indicator of the evolution of the epidemic": the rate of positivity of these tests.

"For the week of June 22, excluding Guyana (where the epidemic is accelerating, note), it is 0.94%, which means that we test an average of 107 people per positive case," explains Jérôme Salomon. "In Guyana, more than 7,000 tests per week are carried out and the positivity rate is very high, around 20%, which corresponds to five people tested for a positive," he said. According to him, the screening operations "will be amplified throughout the summer as close as possible to the activities of our fellow citizens". "We are also planning to organize door-to-door operations," he said.
